Mercy is a sign of strength. Many consider mercy to be weakness. Why should we take the high road and help someone who is in a position of weakness when we can take what we want and continue on our road? Simply put, if we act in such a savage manner we will eventually become weak to a stronger indudual and become prey ourselves.
When we show mercy, we put ourselves in a servant role. We have the chance and opportunity to improve someone else's life. We can teach a man to fish, and he can fish for a lifetime. We all need a hand up sometimes, and being constantly on guard and focused on our own gains exclusively is a selfish and ultimately dangerous way to live.
Showing mercy builds alliances, helps others and is ultimately the right thing to do. When a subordinate makes a mistake at work, you can ridicule him and put him on a performance plan or we can help him. When we help others in our community, we build that community.
Mercy is a sign of our humanity and is empathetic. It makes us human, builds others up and is very good for us.
