During a lecture, the professor suddenly picked up a glass of water and held it up silently.
The students fell silent, all looking at each other to see what the professor was going to say. Ten minutes passed, but they still didn’t lower their hands.
Then he said:
“Tell me, how much does this glass weigh?”

“Two ounces!” “Four ounces!” “Five ounces!”
The professor smiled:
“Maybe you’re right, maybe you’re wrong. We need a scale to find out the real weight. But my question is something else. What happens if I hold it for a few minutes?”
“Nothing will happen,” the students replied.
“Right. And if I hold it like this for an hour?”
“Your arm will start to hurt,” one said.
“Exactly. And if I hold it all day?”
“Your arm will go numb, it will hurt badly, you might need a doctor,” said another, and everyone started laughing.
The professor said calmly:
“Exactly. But did the weight of the glass change during this time?”
“No.”
“Then why the pain? Why the strain?” The room fell silent.
The professor said softly:
“The answer lies in the problems of life. The weight of problems remains the same, but the more we hold on to them, the more they begin to break us. Pain reminds us that we are still alive, but faith reminds us that we will be healed.”
He continued:
“When we carry the burden of problems for too long, they weaken us. But remember, every pain you endure is a step towards the strength that God is building within you.”
The class listened intently. The professor shook the glass slightly and said:
“It is true that pain can break the body, but it can never break the spirit that trusts in its Lord.”
He paused and then smiled and said:
“Often, your greatest pain today can become your greatest testimony tomorrow. Because God does not waste any pain; He uses every sorrow to shape you, strengthen you, and bring you closer to Him.”
Finally, the professor placed the glass on the table and said:
“That is why, be sure to put your problems down at the end of the day. Don’t take them to bed with you. Rest, be refreshed. Because faith and peace will give you new strength for the next day.”
