In the Dominican Republic there are still those who believe in superstitions. Due to globalization, many of these superstitions became myths, however, there are those who still believe in some of them. One of the superstitions that is still in force is the superstitions regarding weddings and the new year.
Before the new year arrives There are people who perform some rituals that will guarantee a better year according to their Superstition. Walking with a suitcase around the neighborhood before the new year arrives is a ritual that many people do in order to obtain a visa in the future. Although it sounds strange, there are a lot of people who believe that if they do not do so they will not be able to obtain an American visa.There are those who say that eating 12 grapes before the cannon is fired to guarantee a year of prosperity and much blessing. Each grape represents a month of the year and those who eat it relate these routes to well-being.
Another of the superstitions that there is with respect to weddings. Getting married on a weekday, specifically on a Tuesday is something that brings bad luck to marriage. That is why it is very common to see that people decide to get married on weekends.Carrying "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" is a very common tradition. The old represents friendships, the new symbolizes the future, the borrowed is related to the family and the blue represents fidelity. Although there are many people who do not take that Superstition to the letter, there are those who take these details into consideration to get married.
Supersticiones de mi país (Bodas y Año Nuevo)
En la República Dominicana todavía hay quienes creen en las supersticiones. Debido a la globalización, muchas de estas supersticiones se convirtieron en mitos, sin embargo, hay quienes todavía creen en algunas de ellas. Una de las supersticiones que todavía está en vigor son las supersticiones con respecto a las bodas y el año nuevo.
Antes de que llegue el nuevo año, hay personas que realizan algunos rituales que garantizarán un año mejor de acuerdo con su superstición. Caminar con una maleta por el vecindario antes de que llegue el nuevo año es un ritual que muchas personas hacen para obtener una visa en el futuro. Aunque suena extraño, hay muchas personas que creen que si no lo hacen no podrán obtener una visa estadounidense. Hay quienes dicen que comer 12 uvas antes de que se cocine el cañón para garantizar un año de prosperidad y mucha bendición. Cada uva representa un mes del año y quienes la comen relacionan estas rutas con el bienestar.
Otra de las supersticiones que hay con respecto a las bodas. Casarse de lunes a viernes, específicamente un martes, es algo que trae mala suerte al matrimonio. Es por eso que es muy común ver que la gente decide casarse los fines de semana. Llevar "algo viejo, algo nuevo, algo prestado y algo azul" es una tradición muy común. Lo viejo representa amistades, lo nuevo simboliza el futuro, lo prestado está relacionado con la familia y el azul representa la fidelidad. Aunque hay muchas personas que no llevan esa superstición al pie de la letra, hay quienes tienen en cuenta estos detalles para casarse.
