It’s been more than 3 months since they implemented the quarantine. Almost all of the businesses including salons and barbershops had been shutdown for months because of this pandemic. As a result, everybody is freaking out to get a haircut especially men and senior citizens. Their hair have gone wild.
Our quarantine status now here in our province is MGCQ or Modified General Community Quarantine. Recently, the government allowed the barbershops and salons to reopen but still with restrictions. They should only offer basic services and entertain 50% of their venue capacity.
My mother badly wants a haircut. However, she’s already 75 years old which means she belongs to the susceptible group. She cannot go out. Yesterday, my mom asked me to trim her hair. At first, I was really hesitant because I have no knowledge to do it. But my mom is self-willed. She insisted and said that she will guide me. Way back her teenage days, according to her, she have tried cutting her cousins’ hair. So, I agreed. Great! I have all the liberty to snip. Nobody wants to get a haircut from a novice, right? But my mom here volunteered. I warned her not to get angry at me if I failed to cut it evenly haha. And I made her promise that I’m still her favorite daughter no matter what happens.
Here are the tools that I used.
a sharp scissor and a fine comb.
First, I tucked away half of her hair using an elastic band.
Then, I determined the lenght. I sectioned the hair and started to cut a small portion, and then I used it as my guide.
I wanted to cut my mom’s hair wet or damp since my mom’s hair is short, thick and a bit wavy. But she refused so it’s a challenge.
Holding the hair firmly between my fingers
First I cut bluntly, and followed by point cut. Then, I just repeated the process. But it took me 2 hours to finish haha. It’s hard to trim a short hair. My back aches after. But surprisingly I enjoyed it. Suddenly, I’m thinking of changing my career.
My mom is a little bit pleased with the result, I guessed. The unevenness is unnoticeable so we’re good haha. I need a lot of practice. Of course, salon haircut is far better. But at least, my mother is happy with it. She said her head feels lighter now.
My hair also desperately needed a trim because my hair tips are starting to get damage. But I’m not ready to destroy my own life haha. Maybe I should watch first some helpful videos on how to cut my own hair in a style that I prefer.
