Soap my boyfriend brought me from France
The classic soap hasn’t finished its service. Nowadays, more and more people choose soap to shower gels. Why? Is this a trend, or part of a different lifestyle?
Most of the “rinse-off” products (shower gel, shampoo, shaving foam,…) contain a cocktail of chemicals that can lead to skin irritations and allergy. Furthermore, things that easily get down the sink, often end up in the environment, because the purification plants fail to filter the chemicals out.
More and more people buy and use the classic cleansing bar again. It is better for the environment and way cheaper. But is it good for your skin and hair?
Unfortunately, classic soap (we’re not talking about synthetic detergent bars here) has a high pH which is problematic for skin. The high pH of soap increases the amount of time required for the skin’s acid mantle to restore itself. That means your skin is more prone to dryness and infections.
But there is a good alternative: moisturizing soap, which also comes in bars. It contains healthy fats, that prevent your skin from drying out.
I can only speak for myself. I always had dry skin. Since I use a cleansing bar there have been no positive or negative effects for my skin. So, I benefit from the lower price, and do something good for the environment. At the end you have to try what works best for you.
It smells fantastic.
