Yes, we need people to look up to, but when it comes to networking, 90% of people above our class will never network with someone that is not within their networking range. Even mentorship comes at a cost, if you're not paying in any way for mentorship then whoever is doing the mentoring stands to gain nothing. Except we're blessed to have the gift of good people.
This is why many people cannot break free, the people who should help them are above their networking range.
This is why I think the power to break free lies in our hands mostly.
