I am constantly seeing a problem with the People I advice and give consultation: They confuse the LinkedIn Operator FOLLOW with the action of INVITING. They are not the same, and they must be executed in precise order.
Why do you Follow others at LinkedIn?
To spy?. To track what others say or chimie?
I personally Follow Recruiters, Headhunters or some members because they distribute job related content
There must be a reason to FOLLOW someone, otherwise you end up piling up your Time Line with non relevant posts
Why do you INVITE others at LinkedIn?
You INVITE someone at LinkedIn because you may consider the connection an added value to your Network. You donΒ΄t connect for the sake of connecting and increasing your number because if you do that you will loose quality, exposed yourself to scammers and at the end wasting time and energy with undesirable people.
If you are a Job Seeker and you INVITE someone is because you want to be in his Recruiting / Headhunting Network for current or future opportunities, if she/he accepts you.
If you INVITE a Quality Target with Connection Potential make sure you FOLLOW first
Since you are not sure weather or not you will be accepted as connection, and if not, then you will not be doing any following of that target.
