I'd like to say Hi to all the Linux users out there on steemit even BSD's sysadmins hiding in those blocks come out I know you are in there you fillthy devils ;-).
I've used Linux for years I'm a pre-ubuntu user (it's kind of important to me 😋) back to kernel 2.2 with my beloved Gentoo, however now that all the family use the computer I've adopted Linux mint for convenience and peace of mind 😎.
I also would like to highlight something, I don't know if you have noticed but so far I've been very surprised by the number of distributions that don't support crypto currencies on their donation page. I even done a little investigation on every official website to figure it out for myself.
What I found is quite interesting, I chose the main Linux distributions avoiding Fedora and suse you certainly know why.
Debian : FIAT only
Arch Linux : FIAT only
Manjaro : FIAT only
Lxle: FIAT only
Gentoo: FIAT only
slackware: FIAT only
Ubuntu/Lubuntu : FIAT only
PClinuxOS: FIAT only
Raspbian: FIAT only
CentOS: FIAT only
I found Linux mint has a Bitcoin key but it's empty no transactions..
In the BSD family I found :
FreeBSD: use bitcoin https://bitpay.com/490313/donate
OpenBSD: FIAT only
DragonFlyBSD: FIAT only
TrueOS: FIAT only
It surprises me that coming from the IT world all those projects Open Source, Free Software and relying on donation to exist are not adopting crypto currencies as a way of getting support. I mean a lot of wallet have a linux version, mining programs also and most of the blockchain world is open-source and so many dapps are using github the niche of the majority of linux programs.
Why our most popular distributions haven't made the move to crypto ? I would have expected them to jump on it from day 1. I remember bitcoin in 2009/10 it was a geek thing.
In 2014 someone observed a similar thing with tips on github payed with bitcoins : Linus Torvalds and other developers are leaving Bitcoins on the table
I'm left with a blank thought on this.. what's your opinion ? can you explain this gap between 2 communities so close but yet not linked. Am I missing something ? And how would it affect if suddenly we would have a massive adoption of digital assets to support our best linux out there ? Imagine just a minute the benefits that would bring to our communities if they could get 10x or 100x the amount given. I'm sure as individuals some of the dev behind got some bitcoins and altcoins and I'm sure they all know about it and use crypto currencies.
Follow me and resteem this, if it worths it for you 😘
