As a writer and a fan of reading, I felt the need to create a section in my blog specially dedicated to talk about writers who, in my opinion, have been masters of literature and have served as an invaluable reference for modern writing. On this occasion I could not avoid bringing as a first job for this section a small review (from a deep research and knowledge that I have acquired for years), about a writer who revolutionized horror literature and contributed some of the most representative figures we can find about this type of writing. Here is my favorite writer: Howard Phillip Lovecraft.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was a writer born in Providence, United States, on August 20, 1890. Recognized as one of the greatest exponents of gothic literature, Lovecraft spent his life writing stories published in Pulp magazines. H.P Lovecraft, as it is commonly known, is recognized and celebrated by fans of horror thanks to his work as creator of the genre of cosmic horror, also known as Lovecraftian horror or simply Lovecraftian. Among the works that Lovecraft made within this genre created one of the most interesting and popular horror characters. I already made a review for him alone, of course is the habitant of R'lyeh: Cthulhu.
Probably you want to know: What is the genre of cosmic horror? well, It combines elements of terror along with science fiction, focusing on the idea that there are beings outside (and inside) this world that by their nature escape much of our reason and understanding. Lovecraft was also the founder of the literary philosophy called cosmicism.
Perhaps the most relevant work of Lovecraft and the one that has earned him fame was created precisely in the context of cosmic horror. The myths of Cthulhu are a literary cycle created by HP Lovecraft and extended by various writers who developed a universe of unimaginable beings of dreamlike nature, in this Mythology Lovecraft challenges traditional Gothic literature and conceives within its stories a new class of creatures that in This universe are called "primigenians". The primigenians are unimaginable beings that exist long before the universe, and are both alien entities and gods by themselves, hence derived beings a little more understandable but still of a nature very difficult to digest.
To finish with this part, I would like to take the opportunity to leave a couple of words, definitions or concepts that you probably know but did not know came from Lovecraft's literary universe:
• Necronomicon: Literally translatable as "The Book of the Dead" is a creation of Lovecraft that appeared initially in The Hound or The Hound (1922) is about a book full of arcane knowledge with cults and dark magic rites whose reading provokes the madness and the death. You can find forgotten formulas that allow you to contact supernatural entities of immense power known as the Ancients. (keep in mind that these gods and strange beings that exist in this fictional universe of the myths of Cthulhu) and awaken them from their lethargy to take over the world, which was once theirs.
• Arkham: The name Arkham was created by H.P Lovecraft to name a fictional city located in Massachusetts.
