Legend of the Pineapple
Mrs. Rosa is a widow, and she had a 10 year old daughter, she is Penang. She loved her daughter so dearly, and she wanted her to grown up expert on household choir. So, she teaches Penang everything she knew about household works.
Since she's the only child Penang didn't wanted to work, she keeps on saying that she already knew everything whatever her mother told. So her mother just leaved her.
One day Mrs. Rosa got sick, she can't stand and she cannot work in the house. Penang was force to do the house choirs. Her mother told her to cook porridge. She got a few rice and put it in the pot then she mixed it with water. She puts it in the fire, leave it there and then play. Because of being negligence, the bottom part of the oats got stock in the pot. Mrs. Rosa considered it patiently at least even though Penang served her.
The old woman stays in bed in a few more days. Penang still was forced to do the house choirs. One day while preparing the food to cook, she can't find the ladle. She come close to her mother and asked. Her mother was already so annoyed for she always asked. "Haayyy, Penang! I hope you can have so many eyes, so you can see everything, and you won't keep on asking!"
Since, her mother was angry she left silently to find the ladle. It's already night Mrs. Rosa felt worried, since Penang was not yet been able to come home. She was force to get up and eat. She tried to call her daughter, but no one answered her.
One morning while she was sweeping at the surroundings, she noticed a rare plant that grows under the house. She doesn't know what kind of plant it is, she just pulled it up and planted it in her garden. Not so long, it grew and bears fruit. Mrs. Rosa was startled when she saw the features of the fruit. It shaped like a head of a person that was being surrounded with so many eyes.
She suddenly remembered what she had said to her gone daughter that she can have so many eyes so she can see what she's looking for. She silently mourned and then she realized that what she said affected Penang. So then Mrs. Rosa takes good care of the plant and named it Penang to remember her daughter. In the long run the fruit was called "Pineapple" or (Pinya in Filipino language).
