If you think of what it takes to end poverty, hunger, inequality and injustices or dealing with climate change, it's a lot of work that requires not only you and me but governments as a whole to deal with. True is you can't do all that single-handedly but there are bits and pieces you and I can do to save our world. How?
You don't have to do Nobel Price kinda things to feel you have had an impact there are small things you can start with as stated in her article What Actions need to be taken to halt global warming It Starts with you and me from our homes.
Saving the world from home
2 We all love forests and nature , i know ,
and
are nuts about nature. Let's save cutting of trees by not having our bank statements sent via mail, ask your bank to send you an e-statement. Less paper, less deforestation.
3 Speak Up! Speak Up!, there is a campaign on twitter on #SaveOurForests #SaveMtKenyaForest. There is a crisis looming if cutting down of trees continues, and it will affect you, me and our children, and i want my children to see what forests look like. If you see something that is not right speak it up, tweet it, works very well in Kenya. I personally have spoken up about the government being serious about sustainable buildings, i have been blocked and ignored but i won't stop, i will continue. Aluta Continua!!
5 Are you aware you can do your part , by buying from companies that have sustainable practices within their operation e.g do you buy virgin tissue paper or recycled?
6 Information is power, it doesn't cost you anything to just update yourself on what is going on, read up on the SDGs, know what they are about, what actions need to be taken to meet them, what you can do to meet them.
7 In our article Water Stewardship we talked about saving what, how long are your showers(in twos)? Reduce your shower time by a minute and see the impact even on your water consumption/bill.
8 Did you know it takes almost 11 times to produce the same quantity of meat as vegetables i.e for grain protein production, which is about 2.2 kcal of fossil energy input per 1 kcal of plant protein produced
9 Reusing waste, and recycling of plastic. At least plastic bags got banned, now onto plastic bottles, is there an alternative to plastic bottles?
10 As a kid I don't remember using diapers, you were just let to roam wild and free, with the 21st-century diapers are a necessity, why not buy an environmentally friendly brand. Ideally diapers are not supposed to be flushed or thrown in the garbage hip, same way sanitary pads are disposed, diapers should be disposed, hey but who follows up?
Be a Super Hero and save the world, SWOOOSHH!
