Hopefully the article from the CBC that spurred these thoughts posts on the bottom as I hope it will.
This is a big deal for Alberta, Canada. Even though there's an inhospitable federal presence that continues to try to snuff out the flair stacks one lease at a time, this could be a huge opportunity to create much needed revenues in one of Canada's strongest industries.
This is a bold move in what seems like a vacuum, but I couldn't be more pleased that Cenovus is in the buyer's chair in this deal. They were, hands down, the most ethical and cleanest energy producer I ever worked for and they were a great employer.
Regardless of how you feel about the oil industry, we currently need oil to survive. Long term, clean emergency initiatives aren't just a progressive idea anymore- they are undeniably, the way of the future. In the interim, we can either produce our own ethically produced, clean sources of oil or be dependent on other countries who'll bend us over the barrel of oil while they reap the profits.
Should we be expecting another big oil boom? Not the likes of which we've seen before, I'd wager. We can however, still provide jobs and profit from oil energy sector, while reaping the financial benefits of locally produced products that meet our local energy demands. It's a crazy concept, but someone ought to do it. I'm all for Cenovus being one of the leaders in that initiative as a conversation on the inevitable transitions to other forms of energy and industrial work continue to grow in the right direction.
Much love and stay well. Git'r done 'Berta.

This photo doesn't depict Husky or Cenovus, but it is Canadian. Shot on my LG G6.
