Although it sounds like the driest and least interesting subject you could ever go into, warehousing and storage is such an intrinsic part of our world that it makes more sense to read this than not to - and not just because of logistical chains.
The book explains the "picking" and "genetic algorithm" processes that are the current state of the art in warehousing large and small. Picking is the process of finding, taking, transporting and delivering the item from storage to the asking party, which sounds simple but gets complicated fast.
Genetic algorithms are a type of machine learning that randomise mutations in such a way as to increase fitness in the achieving of the picking task. Matters such as the "travelling salesman problem" and others are examined and solved for in a mathematical way that I honestly couldn't much follow.
This read definitely makes me think about how I store my money, thoughts, relationships, and much else. Naturally, I now have a better idea of "ABC storage" and similar concepts, but it works in many other spheres of your life. Definitely a BANGER OF THE WEEK.
