China is showing off again. This bridge is one of the best looking bridges to see day or night.
It was built to alleviate the traffic running from the far reaches of the city where a huge spike in middle class citizens prefer driving their sleek new cars to work. Dalian has continued to boom like many other cities in China and its continued wealth keeps people buying homes and cars.
If you want to have cities you got to build roads. - Cake
The bridge is 4.76KM long which connect to a tunnel that 1.56KM long. So basically you could be going up to 6 kilometers without being able to pull over to the side of the road. It cost 1.4 Billion Yuan or roughly $208 Million US. Rather cheap if you ask me but the project is not set for completion until 2018 so I guess it could go up.
It really does make a difference in the traffic during rush hour. Plus it gives some pretty amazing views of the city as you pass. Crappily, the weather was a combination of overcast and smoggy and with our car doing 80kmh I did the best I could to get the shots I got.
Off to the left here is where you can go through the tunnel to another part of town. I have been through it. Cell phone doesn’t work so need to have a few Steemit Posts loaded when I enter.
It’s lit up like Las Vegas at night.
It’s a marvel of engineering. They said it took 9 month to get it to the level of completion it could start being used. Dalian is a big city with many hills. Pretty much any level land was once a hill so making roads is difficult and expensive.
Would you want to walk it? I thought I could bike it. In the summer it might be too hot and in the winter too windy and cold. however I do see people do it, cars are forbidden from stopping so you can't get good photos otherwise.
