Today is National Day of Service and Remembrance Day. The day was created by Presidential proclamation to remember and honor the approximate 3000 lives that were lost in a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. the Presidential proclamation creating this day states:
As we join in serving causes greater than ourselves and honoring those we lost, we are reminded of the ways that the victims of 9/11 live on — in the people they loved, the lives they touched, and the courageous acts they inspired. On Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we pledge to carry on their legacy of courage and compassion, and to move forward together as one people.
Today's poem is inspired by the love, caring, and support that was displayed in the aftermath of the attack. Today our world seems even more divided and we need to re spark the ember of love, peace, and working together.
RE-SPARK THE EMBER OF LOVE AND COMPASSION
It was September 11, 2001,
a beautiful day had begun.
Then at 8:46
beauty was eclipsed,
by a terrorist attack.
Our nation it did impact.
Meant to tear us apart,
instead America showed heart.
The twin towers did fall,
Americans heeded the call.
America came together that day,
Comfort, love, and support led the way.
As a country we prayed,
courage and bravery were displayed.
On this day to remember,
let’s re-spark that ember,
of compassion, support and love.
Let’s release a dove,
as a call for peace,
and hate to cease.
Were all in this together,
let’s make the world better.

Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning) with Lyrics
On September 11, 2001, I had just returned from dropping off my son at school. I called my husband, Bob, he came home from work and together we picked up our son from school. We held each other tight and prayed. Later we went to support my Uncle, because his daughter Christine had flown out of Boston that morning and his son Rick worked in in New York City. Eventually, both of my cousins were able to contact their Dad to say they were okay. Our family was fortunate and blessed that day, unlike so many other families.
