The change was implemented just a few weeks ago where a local pot shop in Seattle is using litecoin to accept credit cards. Prior to this the shop was a cash only establishment, a common trait among Marijuana Stores. Colorado managed to incorporate credit card payments in pot shops years ago, so it's a bit of a mystery why it's taken Washington state so long to catch up. It's also unclear why these businesses need to utilize blockchain technology to accept credit cards. In any case, the marijuana industry has been neglected by banks to say the least, and cryptocurrencies are the solution.
Although it's unfortunate to see that Visa still has to get a cut, this is tremendous news for the community and an incredible use case for the technology. The more businesses in the marijuana industry that accept cryptocurrency, the more secure the network will be and a greater number of people will be exposed to the technology to help drive adoption.
Toke up with LTC!
