SWEPCO – Lubricants
Long Drain Cycle Oils
Attached is the Fluid Analysis for my recent drain of – SWEPCO – 303, 5W30 Engine Oil in my 5.3L, V8, gasoline Engine in my pick-up truck with six (6) quart oil volume. The sample was taken at (20,482) miles on the drain. A review of the Oil Analysis indicates the Oil was within spec and in normally good condition with the exception of the level of Oxidation. If you call LabTech (Polaris Laboratories # 888-758-8812) and ask what this means, what they told me is the one thing this tells you is that the oil has some age to it now and the Acid and Viscosity numbers will rise soon. An elevated Oxidation number is not bad as long as the Acid and Viscosity are within normal range. Had either of them been even marginal they would have been flagged in the report and they are not.
Also attached is an email document from the – SWEPCO – Senior Chemist after reviewing the subject Oil Analysis Report. As you will see he agrees with the earlier stated explanation given by LabTech and states that this Oil drain had roughly 3,000 – 5,000 miles to go before the Acid and Viscosity levels would have elevated to a level outside normal operating specifications. I changed Oil at the time the sample was taken, but this Oil Analysis Report keeps my engine under warranty (see attached) by – SWEPCO – so long as LabTech does not recommend an Oil Change.
