Emerald green views of Atacamite, a copper halide mineral. The first recorded finding of this stone was in the Atacama desert in Chile (the driest place in the world), though it is also found in many other dry and salty places. It is formed when copper containing minerals become oxidized (exposed to oxygen).
Interestingly, a form of this mineral was discovered on the patina of the Statue of Liberty in NYC. It is also found on old copper and bronze artifacts.
Various minerals can be found growing with Atacamite such as chrysocolla and malachite.
