Valanga nigricornis is a common type of grasshopper in Malaysia. Locally known as "Belalang Kunyit". This grasshopper is known to be consume-able as a protein supply. However, it is rare to find the locals who eat this type of grasshopper as daily meal except for certain areas primarily in Malaysian aboriginals areas. Commonly, this grasshopper is green-yellow in colour with blue-black stripes on certain parts of the body.
