If you follow my blog, you probably know how much I love interior design, house decor and diy projects.
Today I would like to share with you a bedroom makeover, which, together with my husband, we've done as a surprise gift to an extremely kind and warmhearted elderly person. Before I show you before & after pictures, let me tell you something more about this lady...
Well, her name is Zofia, she lives in Poland and, at the moment, she is 79 years old. She was born in 1939 (during the II World War) into a family of poor farmers. One day, when she was 18 years old, she met her future husband Jan, at the wedding of her cousin. They fell in love with each other inmediately, got married and had 4 children. Back then, life was extremely difficult and they always lacked money. They lived in a very small village, in Zofia's family house, and had a lot of manual labour as they had a reasonable size farm with cows, pigs, chickens and goats. The whole family including children had to help in the fields or on the farm. At the age of 60 years old, her husband Jan died from a heart attack and ever since then she had to be very strong to continue on with her current life at the countryside.
Today, she still lives in a 100 years old house and has got plenty of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She suffered and sacrificed a lot in her life so as a thank you gift, the whole family asked us to renew her main bedroom. We love such ideas and unique people so we couldn't say no. We were actually more than excited about this project and couldn't wait to start it.
The makeover was supposed to be a surprise for her, so her oldest daughter came up with an idea to invite her to her house for a couple of days. TWO WEEKS, that's all we had to change her bedroom completely and evoke tears of joy and emotion in this amazing elderly lady.
Have we managed to do this? Well, judge for yourself.
BEFORE (Forgive us the mess and the bad quality of pictures - we were in a great hurry packing all the things)
AFTER
So, that would be it... I hope I have inspired you with the ideas for a bedroom makeover or at least with an idea for a thank you gift for someone special. One is for sure, such presents are unforgettable and always stir a lot of emotions. Our heroine was so touched that tears came to her eyes. For us it was a priceless moment worth every effort.
PS. My daughter Zosia has got a name after her extraordinary Great grandmother!
WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST!
