This is my entry for Manda Alart Challenge by .
I've never drawn mandalas and these two might not actually be true mandalas as they aren't religious or really spiritual. However, I really enjoyed drawing them and plan to do more.
A mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe.

A mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Mandalas generally have one identifiable center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms.
The first one I made after a reflective walk and the second right after waking up from some ugly construction noises. This helped me to relax and let go of frustration from bad sleep.
The drawings are quite small, each only a 6th of size of an A5 paper. I was planning to make just one, much bigger mandala, but I went with my gut instead and made small ones. The small size also allows me to draw all of the circles by hand without any tools like a compass or cups.
I started with a rough pencil sketches to mark the various circles. Most details were simply drawn with a 0.4 ink pen, without planning. Sometimes overthinking results in still lifeless art unlike on the fly sketches. In the end I used a 0.1 pen for a few additional details.
Thank you for reading! If you draw mandalas feel free to share them in the comments! I'd love to see. ^^
