After a couple setbacks, my friend Tom got his evaporator ready for the first boil. The top will be covered with the stainless steel pans.
I think it was Tuesday night he started the boil about 6:25 PM and he guesses he did about 70 gallons by 11:25PM when he finished. He got 5 gallons of syrup in 5 hours. He broke his record of boiling 10 gallons of sap per hour and it’s now 13 gallons of sap per hour.
He didn’t get to put in the refinements on the evaporator before he started this year. Hopefully at the end of the season, he can get them done and be all ready to break another record next year.
All photos are his.
