Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto released a statement saying " The ruling Eliminates the prohibition and criminalization of acts related to the use of Medical Marijuana" .The bill passed with a vote of 98-7, and from Mexico’s Lower House of Congress in April, with a vote of 374-7 vote.
The ministry of health in mexico will be in charge of regulating medical Marijuana in the Country. All of this comes after major Criticism from the president siting the failed Drug war in Mexico and all around the world and believes Drug abuse should be viewed as a public health problem.
Mexico has become the poster child of failed drug wars since previous President Felipe Calderon Started a war on Drug Trafficking in 2006. The new policies that mexico is setting in place can easily pave the way for other countries to follow.
Especially since The Mexican Drug War has Claimed the lives of more then 100,000 people since it Began.
The United States has also began decriminalizing Medical Marijuana at the state level but still has a long way to go before becoming Federally Legal. The Trump Administration has already hinted at coming after legal and medical marijuana. so Far 29 states have some form of legal or medicinal policies regarding marijuana. Is there finally a light at the end of the tunnel for the failed war on drugs in both the United stated and Mexico ?
