Today it's Friday, I mean #MarketFriday and obviously I'm here with some craft items from one of the craft markets held in my city this year. Each market is different even though sometimes or maybe always you can find the same products, the same craft masters.
Today I chose to post some handmade and hand painted ceramics as those are not only famous but also a must when it comes to craft fairs. These can't be missing.
These are traditional ceramics for the Transylvania region, used for every day cooking. It's a special kind in which you can cook pretty much everything as long as you don't place it on direct fire. When these were first made, life was very different, fireplaces were different. Heating and cooking was done using wood and there was a stove in which the fire was made with woods. That's why these pots must not be placed on open fire.
If you have a closer look, on the handle you can read the name of the craft master. I have a similar one and use it to cook stuffed cabbage in it as it's a traditional dish in Transylvania and I love it. I'm thinking of buying another one in the near future.
The white pot decorated with the red floral pattern (tulips mostly) is the traditional one. The other design on the left is newer. Those bowls on the right are also traditional.
These are interesting products. While the design on the plate is the old, traditional design specific to that region, the colors on the other hand are not. And sorry to say this but the first plate is disappointing, looks like painted by a kid, honestly. I'm not saying it has to be perfect because what's handmade can't or hardly ever is perfect but still. I've never seen such a sloppy work.
The truth is, what they are doing is a bit backwards. You may think these artists have first discovered that they have some kind of talent and then started doing pottery but it doesn't happen like that. Usually these are family businesses and kids are learning this from a young age, regardless of their talent or lack of talent. That's why sometimes you see works that are not exactly beautiful. However, most of the products are great.
Little carafes for souvenir and horse shoe, plates and other items as fridge magnets. When I left home to go to this craft market I knew I wanted something and that was a magnet. I picked a small red plate magnet decorated with white floral motifs. These are so cute.
This is an unusual design. The flowers except of the two half sunflowers are old motifs but the colors are not, again, as I said earlier. The traditional colors are red, brown, green, black and blue and the combinations are red and black, blue, brown and blue. This is new.
