When I came across Slowood stores at Central historic market, the first thing I noticed are the products that are sold in bulk and some in refills, thus, making this a zero-waste store. There's a wide selection of products in Slowood from food, personal care, lifestyle, and household items.
How does a store become zero-waste?
When products are sold in bulk and refills, and not in single-use big packaging, that avoids food waste as products are sold in small packaging, rather than a large number of items. Customers are also required to bring their own containers or reusable bags to collect their items because there aren't plastic bags in the stores.
Of course, not all customers are aware of the zero-waste policy in this store, so they provide free recyclable containers and plastics for customers. These containers can also be donated to the store so other customers can use them. This store promotes the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle of containers to reduce waste.
Products that are sold in bulk include rice and cereals, powdered drinks, nuts and beans, and dried ingredients like mushrooms, noodles, pasta, and others. There are even snacks sold in bulk as well.
There are recyclable paper bags for bulk buying of the products above. It's self-service in this store so customers should weigh their items before paying at the counter. Even their bags for collecting items are eco-friendly, not the usual cart in ordinary supermarkets.
Meanwhile, liquid food products can be bought in grams and customers can use their own refill bottles at home.
80% of their products are plant-based. Some are gluten-free which is perfect for me with gluten intolerance. And to avoid cross-contamination of the products, spoons are always cleaned and sanitized.
Condiments and spices can also be sold per gram.
There are refillable personal care products such as shampoo, body wash, and others.
There is also a wide range of organic and vegan products.
Not just food products are sold here, but also eco-friendly housewares, kitchenwares, and personal items.
I love scented sticks and candles and they also have them here. And a lot more items.
Do you know that buying at Slowood online shop can offset Carbon Emissions?
Slowood has partnered with EcoCart to reduce the carbon footprint of orders. Every order placed by online buyers, they are offsetting the carbon emissions by planting trees in collaboration with the Tri-City Forest.
This is how offsetting carbon works.
You can also visit this link to know more about it and how beneficial it is to our environment.
It is impossible to live a zero-waste lifestyle nowadays, but as Slowood's vision stated, "tiny steps can make an impact if we take them together."
Happy #MarketFriday once again, and greetings to the community's admin, .
