. Being under lockdown means that I have to motivate myself to go out for walking exercises. All the public parks are closed so the only option left to me is to go walking along some old area in Bangkok, preferably with access to the main river. This is because there are strong breezes from the river which makes it very pleasant waking along these roads.
It’s very sunny afternoon so I should go for a walk along the road towards Silom Road. There are stalls selling fruits along the small side alley. But I have my favourite fruit stall owned by two sisters and a brother. They are all in their early seventies with immigrated ancestors from China living in this area for two generations.
I like to look at these old buildings along the main road as they represent history of society some one hundred years ago. Some buildings have been renovated and preserved while others had gone through several modifications. These were the most modern commercial buildings during the time of Long Rama V.
I was pleasantly surprised to see two old shops selling paraphernalia for performing religious ceremonies. The owners are old ladies whose shops have been selling these goods since their parents’ generations. One shop sells paraphernalia for Chinese ceremonies and the next shop sells those for Buddhist ceremonies.
The walk was quite relaxing as the footpath was empty of pedestrians and fewer cars were seen on the road. But most other shops selling silver jewelries and crystals were all closed. This area and especially Silom road used to be the hub for wholesale silver jewelries and precious stones for making jewelries.
เราเบื่อการอยู่นิ่งๆกับที่ภายใต้การล็อกดาวน์มาก เราต้องหาทางออกไปเดินออกกำลังกายตามถนนที่มีความน่าสนใจทางสังคม และประวัติศาสตร์จะได้ทำให้การเดินเล่นมีความสนุกเพลิดเพลิน และยังทำให้เราอยากมาค้นหาความรู้เกี่ยวกับสถานที่ต่างๆรอบตัวด้วย เราไปเดินเล่นที่ถนนเจริญกรุงเพื่อไปถ่ายรูปแถวถนนสีลม เราก็แวะเก็บภาพร้านขายผลไม้และร้านค้าที่เปิดมา ตั้งแต่สมัยรุ่นพ่อแม่ซึ่งตกทอดมาตั้งแต่รุ่นปู่ย่าตายายชาวจีน ที่ข้ามนํ้าข้ามทะเลมาตั้งรกรากในสยามตั้งแต่สมัยรัชกาลที่3 ตึกเก่าแก่สองข้างถนนก็เป็นตึกชุดแรกๆที่สร้างขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่5 ควบคู่กับการสร้างถนนเจริญกรุง เจ้าของร้านขายเครื่องสังฆภัณท์และของสำหรับประกอบพิธีทางศาสนาก็เป็นคนสูงอายุ ร้านเหล่านี้มีมานานตั้งแต่สมัยรุ่นพ่อรุ่นแม่ เราคิดว่าอีกหน่อยร้านเหล่านี้ก็จะหายไปตามกาลเวลา
เราเดินไปก็เห็นร้านส่วนใหญ่ปิดกันหมด ร้านขายเครื่องเงินและขายหินคริสตัลปิดทุกร้าน ส่วนหนึ่งคงเป็นเพราะไม่มีนักท่องเที่ยวและไม่มีพ่อค้าต่างชาติมาซื้อเครื่องเงินเพื่อส่งออก ในอดีตแถวถนนสีลมเป็นแหล่งค้าขายอัญมณีให้กับพ่อค้าคนกลางเพื่อส่งออก จึงมีร้านขายเครื่องประดับร้านใหญ่เล็กมากมาย ปัจจุบันก็ยังศูนย์อัญมณีอยู่สองตึกใหญ่ในถนนสีลมและถนนเจริญกรุง แต่ร้านเล็กๆก็พากันปิดไปหลายร้าน กลายเป็นร้านกาแฟในปัจจุบัน

โรงรับจำนำที่หัวมุมถนนช่างขัดแย้งกับตึกระฟ้าที่สูงตระหง่านอยู่ข้างหลัง สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงช่องว่างระหว่างคนในสังคม ทุกชีวิตเป็นไปตามกระแสกรรม ที่เป็นผลรวมของการกระทำทั้งหลายของคนทั้งหมดในประเทศ เราก็หวังว่าคนส่วนใหญ่จะสามารถผ่านพ้นความยากลำบากครั้งนี้ไปได้ด้วยเถอด
