. Today I have many photos of plants with distinctive leaves on display at the weekend market inside a shopping mall. I noticed that the management of the mall has selected specific plants to be sold at the mall. The majority of plants for sale were not the typical Thai plants with fragrant flowers. They were foliage plants with colourful leaves, leaves with interesting shapes and textures. Foliage plants are quite popular and expensive as they could be placed in beautiful pots and used for enhancing the atmosphere inside the house. Some of these foliage plants could also support energy flow or Feng Shui and help with air purification.
This weekend plants market has a very nice collection of foliage plants which I had never seen or heard of before. These plants were given Thai names with auspicious meanings such as lucky plant, wealth attractor, overflowing money and jewels plants. I did wonder who was the first original inventor of these Thai names. What happen if some plants did not attract wealth or money as suggested by their names? Could people complain or return their plants for reimbursement?
สุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาเราไปเจอตลาดนัดต้นไม้ ที่น่าสนใจมากเพราะว่าเขาเลือกต้นไม้เพียงไม่กี่ประเภทให้มาวางขาย เช่น ต้นกระบองเพชร ต้นบอนไซ และพวกไม้ใบที่มีใบสีสวยหรือมีใบที่มีลักษณะแปลกๆ สะดุดตา เราเห็นพวกไม้ใบสวยๆหลายสิบต้น ต้นไม้ใบขนาดใหญ่มีราคาค่อนข้างแพง ส่วนชื่อต้นไม้ก็เป็นชื่อที่คนไทยคิดกันเอง แต่เป็นชื่อที่เป็นมงคล เช่น เงินเต็มบ้าน เศรษฐีใหม่ รวยล้นฟ้า เป็นต้น เราไม่รู้ว่าใครเป็นคนต้นคิดในการให้ชื่อต้นใม้เช่นนี้ แล้วถ้าคนซื้อต้นไม้ไปแล้วแต่ไม่รวยขึ้น เขาจะเอาต้นไม้มาคืน และขอค่าชดเชยที่ไม่เป็นไปตามชื่อได้หรือเปล่า
บรรยากาศในงานดีมาก เราได้เห็นคนใช้จ่ายเงินกันคึกคัก แต่ต้นไม้ต้นใหญ่ยังเหลือหลายต้น เพราะราคาค่อนข้างแพงและมีขนาดใหญ่มาก คนในเมืองจะไม่ค่อยมีพื้นที่สำหรับทำสวนหรือวางต้นไม้ในบ้าน ตันไม้ขนาดเล็กจะขายได้ง่ายกว่ามาก เราสนุกกับการอ่านชื่อต้นไม้ที่มีความหมายดีเวอร์ ไม้ใบบางเรื่องต้นเหมือนกับต้นไม้ที่เราเคยมี แต่เราเอาไปปลูกไว้ตามริมรั้วเพื่อกันไม่ให้วัชพืชขึ้น ทำให้สงสัยว่าเราปลูกต้นไม้ผิดที่ผิดทางกระมัง เราชอบดูใบไม้สวยๆ แต่เราคงไม่ซื้อมาบ้าน เราคิดว่าปลูกต้นไม้ที่มีผลไม้ให้กินจะมีประโยชน์มากกว่า เราคิดว่าต้องหาต้นไม้ที่มีประโยชน์ใช้สอยมาปลูกเพื่มจะดีกว่า เป็นการเตรียมการสำหรับสงครามที่อาจจะมาถึงในอนาคตอันไกลด้วย
It was very interesting to see these plants and to be informed of the trend in foliage plants and the need to have wealth and luck attracting plants in houses. I could not find any pjs by which could protect people from coronavirus! If there were one, it would be very expensive and highly demanded. Buyers would have to be one a long waiting list! In the end, I still think I rather prefer buying fruit trees which would be mite useful and practical. I was discussing with my gardener that we ought to be planting trees just in case there was a war in the future.
