Here in the Philippines, you will notice the wider roads particularly in national roads. That's because of the ROAD CLEARING which was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte. No other presidents ever ordered such as this. Of course, it might be difficult for those who are affected. But in the long run, it would be of an advantage for the people.
However, there are issues surrounding the road clearing. Here in our town, DPWH, which is conducting demolition has been sued, hence the demolition and road clearing was stopped.
Other LGUs has been abusing the order by telling the people it is for ROAD WIDENING.
Not giving compensation to those affected who has the land title, and did not encroached government lot. There are some people who encroached parts of the road, and there's no question about that. But how about those who have land title? They should be given compensation, but some of them are not being paid.
Harrassment from those who are doing the demolition. There are reports when men from the LGU even said there will be force demolition, or even point their guns. They tell the people in an intimidating manner so people will quickly obey. Some are forced to sign a form, and they are not properly compensated.
A doctor in our town sued the demolition team for attempting to demolish a part of his property without permission. Yes, some of them abused their power through demolition without permission.
Some from the demolition team of LGU and DPWH cannot present legal documents for demolition.
A former government official and numerous propery owners sued the locla government and DPWH for th damage done in ther properties. The story here.
There is no problem with road clearing. But it should be implemented with caution, and according to the law, along with legalities if demolition has to be made.
