So a couple of weeks ago we had Wayne Rooney signing up to play for Derby County and being heavily sponsored by Bet32 in a case of crass commercialism with a serious dose of questionable ethics thrown in for good measure. Ronaldo on the other hand, kept the ethics out and went for all-out cringeworthy and embarrassing knobhead and won hands down!
If you're in SE Asia, you will know all about Lazada online shopping and their younger but extremely fierce rivals, Shopee who are both having huge sales days on the 9th of September, their 9.9 sales. For my wife and I who sell kids books on both these platforms, its bad news as we are flying back to the UK on the 10th and so need to close the shop the day before, thus losing a lot of sales but that's life, we didn't think when we booked the tickets and this time, we would have been advertised by Ronaldo!
I've seen some crap adverts in my life, but an absolutely terrible advert that's barely watchable and starring the world's greatest football player....this is beyond nauseating, it will have you cringing and being embarrassed for him...
Watch it, and see what you think and have a sick bucket handy!
The advert airs all over SE Asia in different languages, I particularly liked his Vietnamese parting tag line when I saw it for the first time last night!
Who are his advisers? Who in all that is football could possibly think this was a good idea? No doubt he has been paid millions and he is, of course, entering the twilight of his playing but even so, is it worth completely losing your self-respect and becoming an absolute laughing stock for?
My fickle opinion may have been swayed had we sold a grand worth of books on 9.9 but as we won't, I'll stick to calling him an embarrassing knobhead!
