"Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries."
For today, I will be translating the following clip of the late Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic that I think should capture the whole essence of May Day/Labour Day, and I firmly think that these words should never be forgotten:
''Don't sleep. You cannot become world champions if you sleep. You can sleep for 5-6 hours, you don't need to sleep more. You will sleep when you retire, retired people can sleep, but if you are not retired, DON'T SLEEP!
And not sleeping is even good for the body.. take a look! (laughs)
Don't make excuses like Saturday/Sunday or holidays.. if you want to obtain some big goal, don't waste time on holidays. Don't go on about the 170 Slava's (Slava (Serbian Cyrillic: Слава, lit. 'Glory, Celebration', pronounced [ˈslâʋa]) is a Serbian Orthodox Christian tradition of the ritual of glorification of one's family's patron saint. The family celebrates the Slava annually on the saint's feast day.) that we have in Serbia on a yearly basis.
We will feast when we win! We can't win if we feast during the time of training!
We have to motivate ourselves, we have to motivate our people in the community, we have to motivate our teammates so that we can finally accomplish that great goal of ours. ''
