Two brothers create a restaurant called mcdonalds and a milkshake machine salesman stumbles across their business. He sees the originality in the business and he decides to help them find ways to grow and becomes a part of a contract with McDonald’s. He decides they need to franchise the business but the brothers didn’t want to because of quality control. He ends up getting them to franchise and is making McDonald’s more and more money while he is only making a small portion because of his contract. In this he finds a way to profit off of this by buying the land that McDonald’s restaurants end up sitting on and gaining more and more control. He started making so much money that the brothers pretty much couldn’t do anything to stop him. This caused Kroc to start making changes to their restaurants without their permission and then so on giving them pretty much no choice but to sell the McDonald’s name to Kroc. The creators of McDonald’s ended up getting no royalties and only 1.3 million each for the one time buying of the name. Kroc didn’t create the business himself but he found a way to take control of one by creating his own. The creators only opened the door by making him franchise operator.
This movie is really interesting in a lot of ways. Two brothers created the most popular restaurant in the world and get it all taken from them by a guy who decided to help them make a franchise and it was all because of the brothers' one little mistake to give him this title. Kroc became a billionaire off of someone else’s idea and I feel like that would scare any business owner. I am not fully sure if what Kroc did was completely legal and I don’t think it was but he still got away with it and made McDonald’s a worldwide success. On one side of the story it is extremely sad but on the other end it’s just insane that one person could do so much with something that was not originally theirs. This movie really shows how careful and how educated you need to be when starting a business; And how important contracts are.
The creation of fast food affected society permanently and so on into the future. Before the creation of McDonald’s there were no fast food restaurants or at least any that were as efficient and cost friendly as McDonald’s. The creation of McDonald’s not only gave families a cheaper and easier way to feed their families but also permanently affected the future. Today we have thousands of fast food options and they keep popping up every day. Fast food provided many positives to society but also caused so many negatives. Due to fast food people in society are having more health problems than ever. I would say The positives of fast food are amazing but the negatives are horrible making the relationship between society and fast food a love-hate relationship. Society fully supports this aspect of entrepreneurship by fueling the entire business. Without people wanting fast food then they would be nothing.
