I no longer have a good idea of how the media works because I don’t watch the corporate media on tv nor read hardly any of their print. I know whenever I do pass by a tv showing “news” I always cringe and try to get away immediately. Recently with Michelle Wolf’s scathing speech on Trump the question of media’s role was revisited. As most of us on Steemit know, the media is a clown show, bought and paid for by the oligarchs; as bad as a corrupt communist or fascist regime could muster. But if I understand correctly, Michelle's forthright lines raise the role that comedy plays in continuing this delusion. Comedy is often therapeutic, but is it correct to keep laughing at the idiocy and offensive nature of Trump’s decision making and priorities?
I’ve always felt that humor at the expense of easy targets really isn’t humor, and in this case can we really allow ourselves to laugh at the disgusting displays of greed, racism, classism, and divisive tendencies and angry hate of the whole U.S. current regime? It is a dark question, but one we must ponder. As always, it’s not clear what our alternatives our, but being another laughing clown in this circus isn’t that appealing. Maybe what's need is less accommodation in the media and more moments of silence... to reflect on the state of excesses, distortions, gluttony, avarice, and incivility plaguing our civic discourse and leadership.
