Many of you are probably not old enough to remember Newt Gingrinch’s Contract with America, basically a bunch of Republican bullshit that tried to demonize the poor and welfare as a smoke screen for all the corporate welfare and other malfeasance happening at the Federal Level. ... well here we go again
A dozen states looking to implement work requirements and other medicaid obstacles like lock-out periods, asset tests, health literacy exams, and drug tests. This is "workfare" reform being proposed across all social programs, including food assistance. Part of the plan for lowering the social bottom line while giving untold billions to the superrich. It basically comes down to if you can't work or accept a job for slave wages, you may have to die.
So here we are over 20 years later dealing with another attack, holding the poor and infirmed hostage to have a job in order to receive healthcare or the basic necessities to live. This brings a disgusting turn to the expression “sick society”.
