To avoid muscular atrophy, muscle strengthening exercises should be started at the age of 50 at the latest.
The German Society for Prosthetics said that a person who does not exercise regularly loses about 40 percent of their muscle mass until the age of 70.
To avoid this risk, the association recommends that muscle training exercises begin at the age of fifty years at the latest, noting that the appropriate muscle mass helps to accelerate recovery after long hospital stay or after undergoing hip surgery, for example.
Conversely, muscle mass decline negatively affects blood circulation and metabolism.
