War is never a pleasant experience, yet it is a conflict that still occurs and there are many who have lost their lives and suffered the consequences of it.
People need to leave to fight wars, meaning their family has to sit and anxiously wonder how their loved ones are and if they'll survive. A mother or wife may live in fear of one day getting a letter that she lost her husband or child. Losing someone can be very painful and bring depression. This is shown in several poems and songs:
The poem, "O Captain! My Captain! is poem written about a person, that the speaker admired, passing away as victory is won. the poet admired Abraham Lincoln and wrote it about him, Lincoln being the captain in the poem who died shortly after they won.
Carrie Underwood wrote a song about a woman who lost her husband while he was serving, Just a Dream. This is not actually happen to her, but it is still sad nonetheless.
The song Why by Aurora is not about a loved one dying in a war, but still brings to light the pain and sadness of when a cherished person leaves the Earth and goes to a place you can't follow.
It is clear that it is also difficult for soldiers, both at war and at home. When at war, they have to cope with the emotional pain of being away from their family. It is relieving for them to be home, there are very sweet videos about them coming home, surprising their family, and seeing how happy they are. They risk never seeing their family again to serve their country. Although it would still hurt if a comrade was lost during a battle, and the ones who make it back may be changed by the memory of war.
Memorial's day is a day to remember those who have lost in battle, to honor their sacrifice. How many of us are willing to possibly give up precious days of life with loved ones? We need to take a day to remember them.
