In my high school years i was an adamant comic book collector. It was something else in the late 80’s. Frank miller, Neil Gaimans sandman, Dave Sims cerebus, alan moore swam thing watchmen but there was one creator i could not get enough of as each of his stories were larger than life and more meaningful than most comics. His name was Grant Morrison and i bought his issues of Doom Patrol and Animal Man off the newstand. His storylines often alluded to the hinterlands of encoded information, wisdom through altered states of conciousness, of cracking the code on the strangeness and absurdity yet still holding dearly to the sacrifice and archetypes of being heroic and doing the right thing. I saw a youtube documentary about the cosmology of Grant and it seemed to hold a magic key with unlocking my own understanding of self, art, purpose, and dreams. It was as if i had forgotten to remember that i have permission to dream and hearing of grant morrisons life endeavors and philosophy changed me quick and simple. Thank you Grant.
