The mechanical action of the waves constantly churning and pounding relentlessly. And the chemical action of the water with salt and other minerals which react to break down metal.
The Coins found Metal Detecting on the beaches usually come out in bad condition, even modern coins dropped recently will quickly deteriorate because most are just plated steel. Sometimes it's almost impossible to identify them.
Although there damaged and modern with no value, I think they are Beautiful and they are some of my favourite finds! Mother Nature reclaiming what's hers, atom by atom until there's nothing left! Each Coin is a work of Art :-)
