I was in LinkedIn and my eye got caught by an interesting post regarding an ... OpenVerse.
The post was asking people who are professional in XR/VW to join this OpenVerse.
The OpenVerse Observatory project, is an EU-funded initiative under Horizon Europe.
To be absolutely honest I was not sure what those meant, so after googling them, I saw that they mean the below:
XR and Virtual Worlds represent the foundation of the next generation of the internet, often linked to the concept of the metaverse.
XR (Extended Reality) is an umbrella term that includes:
- Virtual Reality (VR)
- Augmented Reality (AR)
- Mixed Reality (MR)
These technologies blend the physical and digital worlds, creating immersive experiences that can simulate, enhance, or completely replace real-world environments.
VW (Virtual Worlds) refers to persistent digital environments where users can:
- Interact with others in real time
- Build and own digital spaces
- Attend events, work, or socialize
- Participate in virtual economies
Metaverse was a very hyped term a few years ago, right now it is not been heard and used very often, but I know that there is much work done in the background, both in academic and theoretic but also in coding level.
This project was created back in 2023 and as I saw, it will conclude in October 2026.
They still invite people over to connect, so I would like to see what is going on over there and how active they are
https://open-verse.eu/get-involved/
You can see a number of posts in their LinkedIn page, some of them may seem interesting to you.
They have an open call for Ambassadors and they also invite companies to create their own page

Users can register here: https://observatory.open-verse.eu/user/register
Would it be something for you to try out? Or do you think that Metaverse is no longer relevant?
I will definitely check this out in more detail, but until I do - I wanted to give you the heads up :)
Let me know what you think!
