La Malinche is an inactive volcano, located at the center of Mexico in the state of Tlaxcala. Is the fifth highest volcano of the country with 4,461 meters. The name La Malinche, comes from the historical woman that became the lover and translator of Hernán Cortés when the Spanish conquered Mexico.
Climbing la Malinche is a very popular activity for the local people, the path is very well done as is very easy to follow, there is no need of a guide. Anytime of the year you can see families with little children hiking up, mountain bikers and athletes running all the way up.
Mountain climbers use La Malinche as a training and adaptation to climb the higher volcanoes. In average it would take about 4 hour to 5 hours to depending on your physical condition, there is no need of special equipment.
