Social network behemoth is acquiring Bloomsbury AI a London-based AI.Bloombury AI is a startup that has built natural language processing (NLP) technology to help machines answer questions based on information obtained from documents. Facebook will take help of this tech to tackle the issues of fake news and content issues.
William Tunstall-Pedoe, is also an investor in Bloomsbury, who was instrumental in the development of (Alexa) Amazon’s AI-powered digital assistant. Found from a source that Sebastian Riedel the CTO/Head of research was the biggest draw. He is a leading expert in area of NLP and professor of UCL. He is also co-founded and advisor of Factmata according to LinkedIn. Factmata is a U.K.'s startup that help brands to tackle facke news.
This brings possible reasons that Facebook will acquire Bloomsbury AI. The company's sole product is an API called Cape that let developers of the company add questions and answer functionaly to the website.
Facebook can use Cape in Q&A technology being used as a workplace tool for company to discover content and also offers facebook customers a way of significantly improving its search and knowledge based functionality.
