It seems like only yesterday that I set up The Writers' Block discord server, a writers' group with bold plans. Our old home, the fiction workshop over at PALnet, began to feel too cramped so we took residence in new digs with plenty of room for expansion. And expand we did - with at my side as co-admin, we branched into poetry, non fiction / technical writing, and songwriting. To assist those without English as their primary language, we opened up the English language channel.
This happened late September, the 24th if you want an exact date. We were small, just a dozen or so members with much room to run around. The halls echoed, and we made it home. Although we expanded to cover more forms of writing, fiction is still very much our focus and slowly word got out about our excellent editing team. They help to guide writers, polish their submissions, make suggestions and brainstorm new ideas. All for free, in their own time, without asking for anything in return.
We very much enjoy a close friendship with the Minnow Support Project's PALnet server, with each community regularly sending members each other's way according to the needs.
As our numbers grew, so did our leadership. With new people joining daily, we needed more moderators to stay on top of things like welcoming new members, promoting them, guiding and helping them on their journey to becoming better writers. Our leadership team is awesome. From moderators through to senior editors, they are a truly great bunch of people who manage the day to day running of the server for us as we plot our next great step - the forming of the first publishing house entirely backed by crypto. The legalities have been taken care of and we are ploughing forward with Steemhouse Publishing, LLC, this year.
A recent exciting development is our official affiliation with another writers' group called Scribes and Scribblers. Whereas most of our members are on Steem, most of their 5.5k are not. Yes - 5,500 writers who could potentially bring much value to the platform. They also represent a great pool of publishable talent ripe for Steemhouse Publishing.
Ok, so enough rambling. Back to the point of this post - I am excited to announce that as of this evening we recruited our 500th member! Little did I believe that in three short months we would have reached this milestone so soon. Every day gets busier than the last and I am so proud of what the team has achieved to date. It wouldn't be The Writers' Block without the core membership, editors and moderators all pulling together in the same direction toward our common future.
Thank you all for joining us on our journey!
