What often affects most people in their decision making is their preconceived judgment. Most people are mind judgy when it comes to a matter dealing with their daily life or business. It was a one day during my National Youth Service Corps Orientation camp training at Kusalla Dam, Karaye, Kano state, Nigeria, a woman presenter gives us an interesting lecture. In that lecture she enlightened us about the reality of labour market, the factors behind unemployment and why some graduates cannot secure a job after many years of their national service.
In her words, she said among other things that, one of the reasons many graduates did not get a job is that majority of them are not employable. She said many graduates believed that having a degree is all would qualify them to get their dream job without any additional skills or knowledge outside their discipline. According to her, getting a good job outside there beyond that first degree certificate holding by everyone, it requires some prerequisites skills that will be attached to your credentials before a good job is secured.
Alongside, she said, among the things that is holding young graduates back is their unaware of trials. Most believed that a job will just come to them without making an effort. She said, one must take an effort in every angles of possibilities. She uttered a statement that, "You may not know until you try". This means whatever you believe a situation could be, you may not know until you give it a trial, you need assistance from someone don't just conclude it in your mind that the 'guy' would not help, just try, you cannot say. You want to share your business opportunity with a person that is already successful than you that makes you think that the man may not have interest; you may not know until you try. A lady that you have feelings for, but you are afraid that she may turn down your offer because of her high status or outlook, you may not know until you try.
As I heard this statement, I nodded my head and say wow! this is my grey and I found a way out to mend it. Starting from that day, I started applying it in my daily life, from family or friend issue, personal and interpersonal as well as business and relationship life. I have benefitted a lot ever since I have come across with this idea, it has helped me a lot in making decisions of my life and it has been given me positive results most of time. This statement unknowingly has built my confidence and scrapped away all my fears in that I don't feel discouraged whenever I faced tough challenges, tough time or in making a critical decision. It has been a tool for me in many ways, meeting new people, open to great challenges that later make me strong and have new experience. And it has also helped me in making my belief strong in that whenever I may want to try out something, meeting new prospect or taking any step, I pre- feed my mind that it is either to be yes or no and there had neither been a bad experience nor a good one only learning experience as taught by Eric Worre. So try out new innovation, idea, or solution it may be your break through you may not know until you try. Meet you next time.
