A couple of months ago I discovered a new fintech startup, JSECoin, which aims to monetize websites by browser mining. After looking at the white paper and their JS code, I decided to give it a try, and installed it on a few websites I (still) run.
The startup grew nicely during the last couple of months, and although I don't use it on steem.supply anymore, I still follow their updates. So it was a nice surprise to see they got whitelisted by one of the biggest anti-virus companies out there, Bitdefender (which happens to be a Romanian company, but that's another story). You can see all the details about this in their latest blog post. Being whitelisted by such a popular company is a big milestone and it happened after Bitdefender audited their script and concluded it's harmless for the user's computers.
Browser mining could be a huge step forward in website monetization, if done right. In my opinion, this is the single pertinent competitor to AdSense, but it faces a lot of hurdles. Probably the most common is anonymous mining of Monero, which made a really bad name to browser mining.
During the next few weeks, JSECoin will also announce their ICO, will keep you posted, if you're interested.
