I am going to walk you through step by step with pictures on what equipment you need to buy to build your own 6 GPU ether mining rig!!!
THIS IS JUST A PREVIEW TO THE MADNESS. I WILL RELEASE THE FULL ARTICLE LATER AND SHOW YOU HOW TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AND GET RUNNING!
If you would like to get started early, here is what you are going to need....
What we have here:
- 7 varieties of the NVIDIA GTX GeForce 1070 GPU (EVGA, EVGA Superclocked, EVGA FTW2 and Strix Gaming)
- Corsair 1200w PSU
- 2x4gb DDR4 RAM (8gb total)Evo Potenza by Geil
- Gigabyte Z270-HD3 (socket 1151 for intel celeron processor which is not pictured)
- Also not pictured above: USB riser cables, a Solid State Hard Drive
Remember!!!!!
Your rig is not going to be multitasking a ton so a dual core CPU will work just fine.
and
The riser cables can be found on amazon and ebay for the most part. They will be sold by companies you most likely haven't heard of. ORDER THEM, you needz them.
YOU WANT MORE OF THESE!? You better listen boys and girls.
What we have here are also very useful.
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU founder's edition by NVIDIA (We used 6)
- 8gb DDR4 RAM by Ballistix
- An Intel i3 processor which was over $100, but I bough it with a clearance motherboard at Micro Center so I got the bundle deal and a bunch of loot off for the mother board MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE PINS BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
- Motherboard is a Gigabyte G1 Gaming mother board
- SSD by San Disk
Alright kids this is what the riser cards look like going into your motherboard. Make sure the board you buy has enough slots for what you are trying to accomplish!!!
Beautiful! What your motherboard should look like after installing the GPUs with riser cables, the CPU, the RAM, and the hard drive which we will need for operating system.
**PSU is not installed at this point
I've seen a lot of different techniques and I am sure they all work well. However...you can buy this rack at Target for $25, and with some zip ties it is very useful and aesthetic.
Here we zip tied the mother board and connected the PSU. The PSU is a 1375w by ThermaItake (Toughpower XT Gold). Wasn't the first choice, as you may know many of these products are limited and hard to find right now, so make your best decisions but make them before someone else does!
Here's my steemit/real life friend Anthony (I will have to link him in the replies) connecting to the GPUs with zip tie. NOTE: we did remove the foam around the PSU before we started the rig.
You will also see that by this time Anthony has connected the San Disk SSD but hasn't chosen a final placement just yet.
Here's a nice clear look from the other angle.
Connections from PSU to all six GPUs. Check em twice!
Here's another straight on shot of the riser cables on the motherboard.
Here you can see from the bottom view how we zip tied the GPUs.
Shiva wanted to get in on the action! Sorry Shiva...its the thumb thing...
OH yeah baby, we got lights.
Starting to look like a finished product!!
Please stay tuned for my next blog post which will tell you what to do with all of this fancy equipment!!
In the meantime see if you can find yourself a copy of PiMP OS at www.getPiMP.org (Portable Instant Mining Platform)
Thanks for checking out my guide. If you like it, vote it!
