For some reason, this phrase has always rubbed me the wrong way. It's like nails on a chalkboard. If you could care less, it means that you care. It's supposed to be "I couldn't care less".
Someone once told me the saying was meant to be sarcastic. While that makes sense, I have difficulty believing the original saying was sarcastic. It seems more plausible that we messed up the grammar and it coincidentally makes sense as sarcasm.
Am I the only one?
