The homestead has thousands of milkweed plants this year, and I was pleased to see this monarch caterpillar. It was so beautiful with its zebra stripes. It was chewing on one of the leaves from underneath I assume to be hidden from predators. Hopefully it makes a cocoon on the plant so I can witness the entire process of caterpillar, pupa, and butterfly. Every trip I take back in the field I see new life and leave with more curiosity and questions than answers.
