Trying to discuss complicated topics like the gold standard, the federal reserve, fiat currency and quantitative easing with family or friends can be tricky. It doesn't take too long before we get written off as the "crazy one" or the "conspiracy theorist". At least that has been my experience. Finding simple ways to explain big topics can sometimes be challenging - but I think it can be a good way to start the conversation without overloading someone with information.
A few years ago, sent me this video on quantitative easing and I still crack up every time I watch it! Honestly though, it really made the topic feel more approachable for me and it sparked my curiosity so that I wanted to learn more. I have since shared it with others and found it led to really interesting conversations.
In fact, tonight I was having Thanksgiving dinner with my family (I'm half Canadian) and the topic turned to the gold standard. I have some pretty politically minded brothers, but I got some blank stares when I mentioned quantitative easing. I threw up this video on their TV after dinner and it was a really great injection into the conversation.
Video was filmed by Clarke and Dawe in response to the European debt crisis in 2010.
