In Vergangenheit habe ich viel über Georgien und die Banken in verschiedenen Blogs gelesen. Das wollte ich nicht wirklich wahr haben und bin unter anderem auch deswegen hier nach Georgien gekommen, um mich selber davon zu überzeugen.

we from Goodbye Matrix have opened an personal bank account today in Tbilisi, Georgia. We heard a lot about the banking sector in the past through other blogs. We couldn't believe that it is true so we decided to visit the country on our own and look if it's true ;)
What have we heard?
We heard that it it's very simple to open an account here and it just takes 5 to 15 minutes. Also that you will receive very high interest rate of over 10% per year for a term deposit.

Is it true?
After a few days here and a lot of researching we can say: YES!!!
It's true and we are a little overwhelmed of the well organised banking system in Georgia :)

Good NEWS for US citizens: Through FACTA agreement it's nearly impossible for US citizens to open a bank account abroad. Not so in Georgia. You are also welcome here to open a personal account :) The accounts are multi currencies accounts in EUR, USD, GBP and Lari.
Fees
A lot of people asking me what fees will apply to a account in Georgia? First: Every bank has other fees and we decided to open a account at TBC Bank because they offering the best rates for personal accounts. Other banks are slightly expensive.
So we only cover here the current TBC fees (June 2017). For other banks you have to make your own research like we did before.
Why we opened a account at TBC Bank?
They are offering the best fees in comparison to other banks in Georgia. They have the best rates for withdrawal money on foreign ATMs. For withdrawal in other ATMs you will get charged 2%, min. 3 USD/EUR or 6 GEL
For paying with your Visa card in shops there are no fees.
Current account maintenance is 0.9 GEL/month

What do I need to open a account?
I never visited a bank where it's so easy to open an account. I had to wait about 15 minutes and my account was open and ready to use :)
I can use the online banking area already after opening and make deposits to my new account. The card is ready after 24 hours!
I can pick it up tomorrow at the branch. It's a Visa debit card for worldwide payment.
We just needed our passport, no utility bill or proof of residence! So put you passport on the table and wait 15 minutes for your new Georgian account :)

Conclusion
As you can see it's very easy to open an personal account here in Georgia. You can use it after 15 minutes and your card will be ready after 24 hours! No proof of residence needed, just your passport!
The account is a multi currency account in USD, EUR and Lari. If you want to make a term deposit you can open a new account directly online without visiting a branch again. You will get a extra 0,3% bonus interest rate, so you can receive up to 10,3% interest a year in Lari!
Fir your fist account you have to visit a bank branch in Georgia in person. After that you can open online as many accounts as you want.
With Liberty Bank it's even better and you will receive 11,5% interest for a 12 month term deposit!
