There's a recent update on X and this demonitizes creators who are specialized on crypto contents. This means you can no longer be "paid to shill" and when you go ahead anyway to do it, then you risk a chance of getting demonitized, and then banned as well.
A lot of crypto creators have had their creator's revenue paused while web2 content creators have scaled and their monetization have improved. Why?
According to , Elon Musk's coding guy, they're trying to pay more content creators who's contents blows up and bangs. However I just think they're trying to narrow down Twitter as a marketplace, making sure no one establishes a marketing campaign on Twitter without going through them (Elon Musk).
Companies have found cheaper ways to actually market their product without using Twitter, instead they democratize it by using paid KOLs and using infofi campaigns like Kaito, because it's cheaper and targets the proper audience.
However Twitter is now cracking down on these and making it hard for payment to stay decentralizated. This is the problem with earning on a centralized platform, you're at the mercy of the owners, and your years of hardwork can be wiped out in seconds.
You might be thinking so why do people go back there anyway? It's simple: that's where all the money is. You can earn 100k$ in YouTube per years, or at least $25000 in Twitter monetization in a year.
The thing is that you'll have to actually build a audience to do so while in web3 you can immediately start earning with zero skills. Another difference is that without an actual bull market earning and hustling decentralized opportunities might seem futile.
So basically Twitter crypto creators are cooked, a lot of them rely on this monetization to earn, and it's difficult for them to pivot to web2 contents. So it's either they do or forget monetization and basically that is it.
Earning from centralized platforms can be brutal and you can lose everything in the blink of an eye.
For someone who was big into crypto (Elon Musk) you'd think anyone can also become a KOL and earn money, but over 20 crypto agency are nis reliant on the X API to run a decentralized marketing campaign that democratizes rewards for the common people. However, Elon doesn't like losing marketing money and he's made this clear that all marketing money should come from him and no back doors, and certain not money for any crypto bro.
Will this chase away crypto creators on X?
Think not. People will find ways to adapt, or run secret campaigns Elon cannot figure out until it gets banned again and the cycle keeps repeating itself.
Unfortunately they'll continue remaining relevant, because that's where the big money is. On Hive, as cannot exactly be like Twitter, we cannot muster their earning, KPIs and all that, we just have to be a good decentralizated crypto outfit, and we can also find ways to generate money with our data as well on the layer 1 end, without compromising our decentralized nature.
I understand that this isn't always talked about a lot, or a few project on the layer 2 end has tried it and failed a lot as well but this doesn't mean we can't try again.
