Please beware of the new trick that fraudsters are using to defraud unwary bank customers. Recently, somebody called a friend of mine with this phone number, 0706****545 (four digits concealed), and told him he was registering online for a certain service and mistakenly typed his number into the online form. He said that his number looked similar to his own and that the password of what he registered for was sent to my friend's phone. And he actually saw the number sent to his phone: 6310.
He appealed that my friend should forward the reset code sent to his phone to him, so that he could complete the registration process. My friend told him to call him with the number he claimed was similar to hes so that he could verify his claim. He said that he did not have airtime on his phone.
My friend went online to learn more, and was horrified to discover that he was actually trying to reset his bank online/yahoomail password. Clearly he was a fraudster and account hacker. In other words, 419ner! If my friend had given him the code which was sent to his phone, he would have used it to reset his bank online/mobile app account.
Please, dear reader, be careful and vigilant. Fraudsters are devising new ways every day. Peace.
